Gloss

Point your camera. Tap a word.

How it works

Point Gloss at any printed text — a book, a menu, a label. When the brackets lock onto a word, tap it to see its meaning. Tap the shutter to freeze the page, then tap words at your own pace or long-press to select and copy text.

Definitions come from the reference dictionaries built into iOS. If you haven't downloaded one yet, the definition screen offers Manage Dictionaries to add them.

Frequently asked

Nothing happens when I tap a word. Make sure a reference dictionary is downloaded: tap any word, then choose Manage Dictionaries on the screen that appears.

The camera view is black. Gloss needs camera access: Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → Gloss.

Small print or dim light? Use the zoom and torch controls in the dock at the bottom of the screen.
